Any type of motor vehicle crash can change a person’s life forever, but ones involving a motorcycle have the potential to be particularly devastating. Riders typically don’t have the same amount of protection as a car, so any injuries they might sustain in a motorcycle accident can be serious, even causing death. Here in Indiana, one family is grieving the loss of a man who died in a recent motorbike collision.

The crash occurred in the afternoon as a man on a motorcycle travelled behind an SUV on a state highway. According to authorities, the SUV signaled that it was going to turn to the right and the motorcycle rider attempted to pass the vehicle on the left. For unknown reasons, the SUV then turned left and was run into by the motorbike, getting struck at a 90 degree angle.

The man was rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries, passing away the following day. The driver of the SUV — an 18-year-old woman — was unharmed. Police have not announced whether she will face any charges in connection to this accident. There is also no word on any possible factors that may have contributed to the crash, such as alcohol usage or fatigue.

If the young woman is found to be responsible for the man’s death, she may face criminal charges in the state of Indiana for her actions. The family of the man may also decide to pursue a civil claim against her in the hopes of securing financial compensation for his death. These sorts of funds could be helpful in covering any unpaid medical bills, funeral costs or other bills that might have resulted from the motorcycle accident. No family should have to endure this kind of pain, but if the worst occurs, there are ways for them to see that justice is served.
