Every day, drivers are able to complete their travels and operate their vehicles without incident. Sadly, there are also situations that occur every day in which drivers are not so lucky. Car accidents happen numerous times daily, and those incidents can range from being considered minor to severe. Unfortunately, not all individuals involved in those accidents are lucky enough to survive them.
A serious accident recently occurred in Indiana that led to multiple fatalities. It was reported that a vehicle with five occupants was traveling on the interstate when the driver lost control after passing a semi truck. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a pole and was sheared in half. The driver of the vehicle was 22 years old, and the passengers were also in their early 20s.
The driver and one other passenger survived the incident, but, regrettably, the three other passengers suffered fatal injuries. Two of those individuals were declared dead on the scene, and the third victim succumbed to injuries at an area hospital. At the time of the report, there had been no charges filed in relation to the fatal event.
Whether criminal charges will be appropriate will be up to the authorities and based on the outcome of the investigation. Regardless of whether charges are filed in fatal accidents, families of deceased victims may be able to take legal actions of their own against the drivers they believe to have acted negligently. Wrongful death claims can often stem from fatal Indiana car accidents, and such civil claims could help parties who wish to seek compensation for the loss of loved ones and other damages.
