Motor vehicle accidents are tragic no matter the circumstances. In the blink of an eye, a person may lose his or her life and a family’s world can be turned upside down. Motorcycle riders are particularly at risk since they have less protection than passengers in cars. This was demonstrated in a recent motorcycle accident here in Indiana that resulted in the rider losing his life.
The crash happened on a recent morning on a state road. The rider was headed west when a truck going in the opposite direction allegedly crossed the center line and ran into the motorcycle. First responders reported to the scene, but were unable to save the man. No one else was injured in the crash.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, as authorities attempt to determine exactly what occurred. There is no word on whether the truck driver was impaired by any substances or of any other possible causes. At this time, no charges have been filed against the truck driver, nor have police announced any intention to do so.
If the truck driver is determined to be at fault for this crash, the family of the victim may decide to file a civil claim. A successfully-litigated claim could mean monetary restitution for the family that could be used to cover unpaid medical bills, funeral expenses or other costs that may have resulted from the motorcycle accident. Although nothing could bring back a loved one, monetary compensation could help this Indiana family while they go through the process of healing after such a tragedy.
